When choosing your Wedding Shoes you should keep in mind how they look with your dress. It is very easy to make the mistake of purchasing a pair of shoes that look absolutely fabulous in the shoe shop and on your feet, and then find that they are totally unsuited to your wedding gown.

A good idea might be to get some of your gown material and take that with you when you go shopping for your Wedding Shoes. If you are having a white wedding, you might think that since your dress is white then all you need do is buy a pair of nice white shoes. However, there is white and white. There is a large variety of different white shades, and the last thing you want is for your shoes to be a slightly grayish white against the diamond white of your wedding dress. In fact, take your shoes with you if you have them already. A three inch heel will look completely different with a dress that was fitted with a pair of mules! Not the same ones, of course, but new ones!

If you are having your Wedding Shoes custom made, then your fabric choice will be determined by the fabric of your dress. Satin shoes with a satin dress, for example. However, whatever style of shoe you choose, and whatever material you have them in, the shoes should match the dress. The decorations on the shoes should not clash with the decoration on the dress. Your shoes could mirror the dress decorations but in a smaller size. A sequined dress would go well with glittery shoes.

The bride’s selection of jewelry could also be mirrored in the Wedding Shoes. This is particularly true if the bride is wearing pearls, which many do, wearing their grandmother’s wedding pearls for example. The shoes could reflect these with a small white beaded pattern. There really is an unlimited range of possibilities in shoe decoration.

It is actually possible to purchase glass effect shoes in crystal clear acrylic, but sadly not the real thing. The nearest you will get to a glass or crystal wedding slipper would be if it were encrusted in diamonds, and these too are available for those that can afford such expensive Wedding Shoes.

Princess Diana, at 5 feet 10 inches, chose flat heeled white silk shoes encrusted with pearls for her wedding to Charles who is 5 feet 11 inches, so that she would not appear taller than him. Not only does that indicate that not all princesses wear glass slippers, but that the height of your future husband must also be considered when choosing your Wedding Shoes. You do not want to tower above him at the altar, but if he is tall neither do you want to appear diminutive. In that case higher heels would be appropriate.

Everybody seems to think that white has always been traditional for a wedding to symbolize purity, but in fact, contrary to what you might read elsewhere, it is fact that it only became so when Queen Victoria wore white for her wedding to Prince Albert. Your wedding, however, should not be influenced by bygone days, but only by your own personal wishes.
