A Wedding Poem to Grace any Ceremony Wedding Poem - expressionA Wedding Poem is a lovely way for someone to express their sentiments, and a wedding is the ideal time to use poetry to make a tasteful and romantic statement of ones feelings towards another. Speeches are always an entertaining and much anticipated part of the wedding reception, and poetry can be used within these speeches to introduce a touch of romance; a romance that otherwise the speaker might have difficulty in getting across. It is not only during the reception, however, that a Wedding Poem can be used, but also during the ceremony. Wedding Poem - favoritesThe Wedding Poem need not be your own personal work, but could be by one of your own favorite poets, or even a beautiful poem you have found by someone unknown. Many beautiful love poems, expressing just the sentiments that you feel for your bride or your groom, are written by that very prolific writer of poetry called ‘Anon’. There is no reason why some of the work of Anon, or even Byron or Browning, cannot be used during the ceremony itself. ‘My Love is Like a Red, Red Rose’ by Robert Burns, or the amusing ‘Oh the Places You’ll Go’ by Dr. Seuss, both make a change to the usual type of love Wedding Poem, or the beautiful ‘True Love’ by Anon: True love is a sacred flame That burns eternally, And none can dim its special glow Or change its destiny. Wedding Poem - ceremonyAnd it becomes even more beautiful as it goes on. Your ceremony service sheet or program can contain several of these to entertain guests while waiting for you to come down the aisle. It is also not uncommon for one or two poems to be read during the ceremony itself: perhaps one just before, one during the interval or while the register is signed, depending on the type of ceremony, and one at the end just before the couple walk back up the aisle. Perhaps have a Wedding Poem read by a professional reader rather than the traditional recessional music. During the speeches, the bride’s father could recite something amusing by a writer or poet such as Oscar Wilde, whose wit is enough to make anyone laugh, or something more romantic by Stuart Macfarlane or William Cartwright. If you have to make a speech and aren’t sure what type of Wedding Poem to use, then either buy a book of love poetry and seek something appropriate, or check out the internet. You can generally find a good selection of poetry online suitable for use in wedding speeches that are either serious and romantic, or amusing and sometimes risqué. Wedding Poem - romanceIt’s not as though poetry is new to weddings, since has been a long-time tradition in most societies. However, it has been a largely forgotten tradition in modern weddings, and with it has also gone much of the romance to be overtaken by the commercialism of modern ceremonies and receptions. You can provide that extra touch of romance to your wedding, or that of your son or daughter, by providing the loving touch of a well selected Wedding Poem. Not everybody can read a Wedding Poem well, since some tend to feel somewhat self conscious or embarrassed at showing such emotions. Love is a very strong emotion that most people do not like to display in public. In such situations professional speakers or readers are far better at it, and even those guests among the party who are used to public speaking will find it less difficult to do. Wedding Poem - alternativesA good alternative to reading poetry out loud, then, is to include them in fortune cookies given to each guest. Each can have a different line from a poem, and although that might seem a difficult task it is not really. You only need about ten or fifteen wedding poems and take a line from each to have over a hundred different lines. You could also use a Wedding Poem on your invitations. One line of relevant poetry on each will be enough. A Wedding Poem is a romantic and lovely way of expressing your feelings, especially if you are the bride or groom reciting a few lines at the reception. It is not traditional for the bride to make a speech, though sometimes she chooses to do so. In place of a speech, a recitation of a love poem, such as Elizabeth Barrett Browning’s ‘How do I love Thee’ would be an appropriate and very beautiful speech: much more acceptable than just the traditional few words. Here is how it starts: Wedding Poem - simplicityHow do I love thee? Let me count the ways. I love thee to the depth and breadth and height My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight For the ends of Being and ideal Grace. A Wedding Poem many times preferable to a simple speech.
