Your Wedding Album should be more than just a record of your wedding. It should be an important part of your family’s history, and provide not only a memory of your wonderful day but also of all the guests and family members who attended.

When you bring out your Wedding Album many years hence to show your grandchildren, you will want these people to be remembered. It might be the only awareness of their family history that your grandchildren will have, and your friends and family should not be forgotten by succeeding generations. The planning of your album, therefore, should begin long before the wedding itself, when you and your photographer discuss the shots that you want taken.

It is too late after the event, when you muse to yourself as you get older, and wish that you had had more photographs taken, or had kept more of them for yourself rather than just the ones involving you and husband, or your immediate family. All of these people took the time to share your wedding day with you, so the least you should do is to remember them, and what better way than in a carefully compiled Wedding Album.

OK, you might have the video, but there is something about a proper photograph that seems to a greater permanence that a video. It is a snapshot of a moment in time; of a single fraction of a second in these people’s lives that you have captured for ever in a Wedding Album. That is something that should be kept and treasured. So don’t spend all your time on the posed photographs of you and your new husband, and perhaps your mom and dad and brothers and sisters, but also look at the wider picture.

What of everybody else who took the trouble to come. The older aunts and uncles, your cousins, perhaps nieces and nephews. What about your friends, many of whom you will eventually lose touch with. Do you want to forget their faces? You will: everybody does, even though they retain a stylized image that they image them to look like. The only way not to is to keep a photograph, and where better than in your Wedding Album.

Your wedding album starts with the photographer. The better the photographer, the better the photographs. They should also be printed on good quality paper, whether they are digital or on film. You should also consider the finish. Some people prefer glossy photos and others a matte or satin finish. It really makes no difference which you choose, since the photos should be protected in the Wedding Album.

You should then arrange to have the whole story of your wedding told on film (or recorded digitally). That should be at least from the time you leave your home for the venue of the ceremony to the end of the evening. You might not have your photographer booked for the whole period, but you will have many guests taking their own photographs and you can use these to fill in any blanks in your Wedding Album.

You should choose as wide a selection as you can, ideally all of them! Your Wedding Album can be edited later when you are putting it together. Right now you might be best to spend more on the quality of the photography than on the album that is to contain them, and then purchase the best album you can when you have the money for it. Some people choose a digital album with a random digital slide show for their sideboard. These digital albums display digital wedding photographs randomly, each for a few seconds. You can add to it over the years as first your children and then your grandchildren arrive.

Wedding Album - posterity

As with your digital album, you can add your children and grandchildren to your Wedding Album, so that it becomes a record of your family history rather than of only your wedding. Putting the photographs together can be great fun for you both, so don’t think it is not worth the trouble. When you bring out your beautiful album in 50 years time on the occasion of your golden wedding anniversary, you will not think it was a waste of time, especially when you remember all these people there that are no longer with you.

They deserve to be remembered and a Wedding Album is a beautiful way of doing so.
