You can walk into a bakery and check out the cakes they have on display, but these are normally very limited and you can’t judge what is possible just by looking at them.

Before doing that, you should have already chosen your gown and the color scheme to be used at the reception. You can then coordinate the cake color to that, although most cakes are covered in white frosting or icing that will go with everything and clash with nothing.
