Orange County Transportation Orange County Transportation - choicesOrange County Transportation is a good mix of trains, buses and roads including two interstate freeways and four state routes. It also provides the usual supply of taxis for occasional travel, and there are a number of initiatives underway to further improve what is already a first class transportation service administered by the Orange County Transit Authority (OCTA). Whether you are a resident of Orange County needing to travel to and from work, or just to take the family away for a day out, or even a visitor taking advantage of the fabulous beaches, tropical weather conditions or even more fabulous championship golf courses the county is famous for, you will be able to find your way around Orange County either by using the comprehensive public transport systems provided by Metrolink or the wonderful bus services. Alternatively, you can drive yourself using the network of recently upgraded freeways and state routes that link all parts of the county to Orange County Transportation. Orange County Transportation - accessLet’s have a look at each of the transport systems available, starting with Metrolink. This is the commuter rail system of Southern California, and links residential areas to cities and employment centers. It is administered by representatives of the Orange County, Los Angeles, Riverside, Ventura and San Bernardino agencies, that of Orange County being run by OCTA. This administration system ensures that all the counties involved are properly served by a modern 21st century link for their Orange County Transportation. In Orange County, there are eleven train stations in all that are served by Metrolink with 44 round trips each week day on three lines. These are the Orange County Line, that connects Los Angeles Union Station and Oceanside, the Inland Empire- Orange County Line from San Barnadino to Oceanside and the 91 Line that runs from Riverside to Los Angeles Union Station. These eleven stations are all served by a comprehensive feeder bus system which ensures that all residents and visitors have access to a station for their Orange County Transportation needs. Orange County Transportation - costsA weekend service is also available on the Orange County Line, so that you can go for a day out for some shopping, entertainment or just for a fun family day without having to worry about Orange County Transportation. Not only that, but the Metrolink weekend fares are 25% less than the week day fares. How’s that for a good deal! There are lots of bus routes connecting residential areas with the Metrolink stations and if you are a resident with a valid ticket, then you get free bus connections between your nearest bus stop and the train station. Not only that, but the buses are scheduled to coincide with the train times, so there is not waiting around. The bus routes themselves are very good for getting you from A to B in the shortest possible time. They connect residential and employments areas and also connect these areas with the entertainment and shopping centers. The prices are excellent and if you are restricted to bus and train travel, then you can get just about anywhere using Orange County Transportation. Orange County Transportation - freewaysThere are two Interstate Freeways for Orange County Transportation: The Santa Ana Freeway (I-5), that is the main route through Orange County, and the San Diego Freeway (I-405). This meets the Cosa Mesa Freeway (SR-55) at what is one the top 10 busiest interchanges in the USA. If you add four state routes to that, then you have a very comprehensive network of freeways across the county. There are also a multitude of other roads serving all of the residential, shopping, entertainment and employment areas in the county. You have little need to travel by car. Orange County Transportation - disabledIf you have a disability and cannot use the regular bus services, then ACCESS should be able to help you. It is OCTA’s shared-ride service that provides Orange County Transportation for people than cannot enter or exit a bus due to a disability. You have to register for the service, and only approved members of ACCESS can use the facility. In order to qualify you must have a disability that prevents you from either boarding or exiting a bus. This is not any individual specific disability, but a functional incapability of using a bus service. This is one more example of the way in which Orange County Transportation systems look after its citizens and ensure that they are able to travel around the county irrespective of their physical condition. Visitors, too, will be impressed by the rails and road network that is constantly being upgraded to make them easier and quicker to use, but also safer. Orange County Transportation | |
